Step 1. (IC and OOC) Go and talk to the Master of the Challenge (MoC) at least a week before the Moot is to be held. The MoC must also receive +mail notification of the Challenge. The terms 'Adren' and 'Athro' will be used to mean challenger and challengee, respectively, from here on. While not precisely accurate, they are short and unambiguous. You should speak beforehand with the Garou you wish to Challenge and obtain his/her agreement. Traditionally, you would not know if your Challenge had been accepted until the Moot, but this method saves time and angst for people who may not be able to make the Moot. In general, you may only challenge a Garou of the next rank higher than yours and there is no requirement to stay within tribe, breed, or auspice. This is a culturally enforced tradition; while occasional exceptions are attempted and allowed, the majority of such challenges will result in cries of dishonor. The Master of the Challenge is generally the final arbiter of whether an exception will be allowed.

Step 2. (OOC and IC) The MoC consults with the elders and the Athro, and a decision is made upon whether the Challenge will be accepted as well as if the Challenge is likely to succeed. The MoC and the Athro should consult and work out the details of the Challenge, to fit customs and so that both will be prepared for unforeseen difficulties. The Adren may be informed of the nature of the decisions or kept entirely in the dark.

Step 3. (IC) At the moot, the Master of the Challenge announces the Adren. The Adren then steps forward to Declare to the Sept his/her Challenge. There will be severe repercussions if you name someone other than the person chosen in Step 1. The Athro accepts or declines (due to a gap in rank, or perhaps as an IC method of Step 2 above). If either the Adren or Athro cannot attend the Sept Moot, the MoC can puppet declaration, acceptance, or refusal of the Challenge in accordance with the decisions reached in Step 2. Please notify the MoC ahead of time, if you wish for yourself to be puppeted.

Step 4. (IC) The Athro names the means of the Challenge, and the MoC describes the rules for the contest. The Challenge has now been Declared. The Adren and the Athro have until the next Moot to resolve the outcome of the Challenge. Special Challenge Moots may be held, where the MoC presides over Challenges.

Step 5. (OOC) The wizards/elders may suggest an outcome to the Athro. This will happen either at Step 2, or well before the Challenge has been completed. Note that this suggestion is not binding. The Athro will get reasons attached to any particularly 'strong' suggestion.

Step 6. (IC) After thorough resolution of the Challenge by RP, the Master of the Challenge either is informed of the outcome or declares the outcome, if the MoC happens to be observing the Challenge in an official capacity. The

outcome is announced at the next Sept Moot by the MoC for all to hear.

Step 7. (Admin) Winning a challenge gets you: increase in rank, an attribute increase, a free gift of the appropriate rank, fame and respect along with twenty minutes in the spotlight. Failing a Challenge doesn't carry any penalty, but you may not challenge the same Athro for a particular rank more than once. Between Moots, an Adren and Athro can only be in at most one Challenge. Multiple Challenges at one time are not allowed. If for some reason the Challenge does not occur in the time span between Moots, the Challenge may be reDeclared at the next Moot. This can only happen once. In a proper WoD, many or most Challenges would fail. GarouMUSH will have an inordinate success rate simply due to time constraints and the fact that PC characters are supposedly above the ordinary milieu.
